TECO Australia is developing a 4.95MW DC solar power farm in Longford, Victoria, as part of its commitment to accelerating Australia’s transition to renewable energy.
The project will deploy approximately 8,400 single-axis tracking solar panels mounted on pile-driven metal structures, minimising ground disturbance and preserving groundcover. Once operational, the farm will generate approximately 8,390MWh of clean electricity per year — the equivalent of powering around 1,595 households.
The installation includes 1–2 inverter stations converting DC to AC power, all-weather access roads for maintenance and emergency vehicles, a 5MW battery energy storage system (BESS), and a dedicated switching station with underground cabling connecting to the high-voltage network. The site, located on a substantially altered agricultural landscape, meets all Victorian Government requirements for large-scale solar facilities.
The project will support 25–50 jobs during peak construction, with 14 ongoing operational roles, in addition to engagement of local contractors throughout.
